A life coach helps people solve problems. They, also, help those who just need a fresh perspective on things. People whose lives have become stagnant and boring. Unlike therapists, who focus on the past, a life coach likes to focus on the present and the future. They want to help people move out of the past into the future. They are goal oriented and enthusiastic about helping their clients become the best that they could be.

A therapist will treat mental health conditions and mental illnesses by focusing on healing from the trauma. Therapists are required to have training and receive a license in order to work with clients. A life coach cannot treat mental health conditions. Also, a life coach is not required to have any special training or certifications. However, that doesn’t stop them from being able to shape the attitude their clients have, troubleshoot issues, improve moods, and bring happiness and balance to their life as a while. There are many coaches that have an expertise in one specific area or another; such as fitness, diet, life skills, career planning, or finances. However, there are plenty that have a diverse background and a mix topics that they are comfortable mentoring one through. They may have had personal life experiences that cover a variety of different things. For example, they may have worked in different industries, or different positions, they may have experience with addiction, or the legal system and jails. They may also have come from abusive relationships or have figured out the secret to a successful relationship. They could be parents, or have experience working with children. Usually they have had many of their own obstacles in their life that they’ve had to overcome which gives them the experience needed to guide someone else through something similar. Other topics a coach could help with range from

  • improving relationships

  • courage to change jobs

  • how to get a raise

  • brainstorming business ideas

  • help one figure which careers suits them best

  • Parenting

  • becoming more accountable

  • start setting goals

  • budgeting better

  • or just day to day life activities.

Maybe the potential client is feeling frustrated with life and haven’t found a therapist that has helped, then why shouldn’t they try a life coach. They provide a different take while focusing on helping improve someone’s situation and wellness. Helping one gain clarity, on whatever situation is going on, is one of the key strengths that a life coach brings to the table. Usually, you’ll find life coaches are excellent problem solvers. They typically have a deep love of bringing happiness into someone’s life by helping to identify and remove the obstacles they face. They work with a large variety of different personalities, such as executives, business people, stay at home moms or dads, creative people, irritated people, those on a spiritual quest, or just someone who needs a change or a sanity check on their life. They work with just about anyone. Working with a life coach will help round out lives and hone in on negative patterns and obstacles. It will help someone recalibrate goals and objectives, and boost the moral and confidence of the client. They also will help clients figure out new habits to increase happiness, reduce stress, find a balance, and overall improve the wellness, and satisfaction in life, of their clients. They should be looked at as a mentor to someone’s whole life, and a friend there to help where possible. Someone should tryout a couple different coaches to make sure their approach fits in with their style and personality.
